Our school community is vibrant and diverse, and we are proud that there are many children from various backgrounds and cultures.
Here at Hounslow Town Primary School, at least 54 languages are spoken within our school community. These include Telegu, Hindi, Punjabi, Ukrainian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese to name just a few!
At Hounslow Town Primary School we respect and celebrate every child – their background, their culture, their faith and the languages they speak. Through our curriculum, we support all our children to understand their place in the community and the wider word. We understand that children, families and staff in our school community come from a range of backgrounds and experiences, and we ensure all children from different backgrounds experience a good quality education and enable them to achieve in line with their peers.
To celebrate this, we have a ‘Language of the Term’ in school where children can learn about different cultures and traditions as well as words and phrases from each other’s languages. Over their time at Hounslow Town Primary School, children will be exposed to different languages as part of our Language of the Term programme, providing opportunities to revisit their learning and build on their vocabulary. The language chosen each term reflects the range of languages spoken by current pupils of our school and their families or provides links to our topic learning where possible. We will review the Language of the Term Cycles regularly to ensure languages spoken reflect our school community and has links to our curriculum.
Parents are warmly invited to read stories in the language of the term and to share cultural traditions, clothing, and books from countries where the language is spoken.
