Our Vision and Aims
Our Arts program is split into three sections; Art, Design Technology and Music. The Arts have a high profile within our school and this is promoted through specialist weeks and events and through the provision of extra-curricular clubs in all areas of the arts in both Key Stages One and Two.
Our aim is to capture the imagination and foster the love of the arts through a wholly inclusive and creative curriculum. We provide plentiful opportunities to develop the children’s interests and use these to inspire and engage.
Art
We are committed to planning and teaching exciting and engaging art lessons through which we give the children the freedom to explore their own interests and encourage their natural flair and talents. At Hounslow Town, we are quite the artists! Against thousands of children in the borough, one of our current Year 6 children won the annual Christmas card competition which was printed on a large-scale and was distributed as our local MP’s Christmas card last year. An accolade to be proud of!
Music
At Hounslow Town, we are very fortunate to work collaboratively with a classically-trained music teacher who has a passion for encouraging all children to harness their musical talents and abilities. Through weekly musical themes, our children are able to learn about and develop an appreciation for different styles of music and as part of this we are also able to promote different ethnicities and cultures.
Children are wholly encouraged to pursue their musical interests by attending a range of extra-curricular clubs either led by our music specialist or external music professionals. We currently provide for choir, recorders, clarinets, piano, guitar and violin.
Design Technology
The children at our school participate in engaging and creative design technology lessons through a range of activities including food technology, woodwork skills and the use of malleable sculpting materials. The children learn to develop their creativity and practical skills using a range of tools and resources. In design technology lessons, children spend time carefully planning, creating and evaluating their designs.
We are fortunate in that we have a fully equipped kitchen in school where children can prepare and cook both hot and cold dishes in a safe environment.
